Root, real name Janos Ruthaly, was born in today&#8217;s Chechia. He won the inaugural World Light Heavyweight title on 22\/4\/1903 defeating Charles \u2018Kid\u2019 McCoy on points over 10 rounds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Root lost the title to George Gardener, TKO 12, just ten weeks later. Following the retirement of James J. Jeffries, Root was matched with Marvin Hart for the vacant World\u2019s Heavyweight Championship on 3\/7\/1905; the fight refereed by Jeffries. Hart was proclaimed the new champion, winning by KO in the 12th.
